"South African composer and violinist Naomi Tagg abandoned conservatoire training to forge her own path with a debut of deliciously rousing film scores and complex compositions."
In this dramatic and film-inspired project, violinist and musical rebel Naomi Tagg, describes how Neolektra wanted to break away from classical ideas of strings and to present it in a light that was accessible to many more listeners than just the classical world. “I wanted to push boundaries and take our audience on a journey by exploring the more dramatic side of strings as seen in film and gaming music.”
Kicking off with a live debut performance on BBC Radio London and bagging a Main Stage slot at the National Arts Festival, Grahamstown in 2017, Neolektra was received with rave reviews and sold out shows - something unheard of for a newcomer.
Neolektra has received international acclaim for the debut album Birth of a Heroine which has been described as “emanating huge emotion, surreal, and beautiful….giving your favourite movie score a run for its money”.
